Canada's Food Guide
The Minçavi program is based on Canada's Food Guide and also considers the recent developments in the field of health and nutrition. Our program is quite “avant-garde” in terms of nutritional recommendations compared to the Guide. We can not forget that the Guide has not been revised since 1996. Notwithstanding, Canada's Food Guide still holds credible nutritional information. A revision group is presently studying the notions suggested by the Guide, to in turn be able to better answer today's realities. The release of this new Guide is scheduled for 2006.In terms of Minçavi, we continue to revise and keep updating our program. Our main focus; the health of our members.
Here are the differences between Canada's Food Guide and the Minçavi Program:
Bread and cereal products: At Minçavi we teach our members to select cereals that are rich in dietary fibre, we teach them about the different types of dietary fibres and their benefits. The criteria for selecting a GOOD cereal are identified in our program. This information is yet to be available in the Guide.
Fruits and vegetables: At Minçavi, the knowledge about antioxidants is already in circulation. We tell our members to have lots of colour in their plates, not only orange and green anymore.
Dairy products: Minçavi recommends an adequate portion of daily calcium adapted to each member's needs. Knowing the importance of calcium in weight loss and weight maintenance and also it's benefits; including preventing osteoporosis, Minçavi points out many sources of mineral calcium other than dairy products. Our program offers clear options for those needing more calcium, such as in soya beverages, salmon, etc.
Meat and meat substitutes: The Omega-3 fats found in fatty fish, legumes and other derivatives are present in our program.
Finally, the Minçavi program clearly discusses the difference between GOOD fats and BAD fats. Recent studies have shown that not all fats are bad for your health. Minçavi is up to date with those recent developments.
